Victoria is lagging dangerously behind other states when it comes to fire and emergency services. The current system was created in the 1940s and has well and truly expired.
The reliance on volunteers in metropolitan Melbourne and larger regional towns is antiquated and is a poor service to the community we serve.
Although volunteers have and will continue to be vital in Victoria's broader emergency service landscape, it is unfair on the community that much of urban Victoria is without the professional fire and emergency service that they need.
